Test prototype

Quick start for testers

This page is for you who have been given a physical Voltvik device to test. The device is a prototype in the validation phase. The goal is to find out what works in practice, and what still needs to be fixed.

First startup

Connect the device to your own WiFi

The test device has been freshly flashed and has empty NVS, meaning no saved setup. It therefore starts its own open access point the first time it gets power.

  1. Connect power

Connect Voltvik to a normal USB-C power supply at 5 V. Leave it powered while you set it up.

  2. Connect the phone or PC to Voltvik-XXXX

The network begins with Voltvik- and four characters that vary from device to device. It is open and should not ask for a password. If the phone says the network has no internet, choose to stay connected.

  3. Open the setup page

The setup page may open automatically. If it does not, type 192.168.4.1 in the browser while you are still connected to Voltvik-XXXX.

  4. Enter your own WiFi

Choose your network on the setup page and enter the password. Once Voltvik has connected to the network, it can be used without the phone being connected to the setup network.

  5. Enter the equipment you want to test

Use Fill in findings if the devices appear in the list of findings. Victron equipment also needs an Instant Readout key from VictronConnect. Each field is saved when you press Set.

If setup stops, note exactly what you see on the screen and in the browser before trying again. It is useful test information.
Daily use

What the screen shows

You move between the measurement pages by swiping sideways. Settings are opened with a long press on the screen and closed with a downward swipe or “Back”.

Eight measurement pages

The order documented on the website is:

1
BATTERY
2
CHARGE LEVEL
3
DC CHARGER
4
INVERTER
5
SOLAR
6
GAS
7
WATER
8
TEMPERATURE

Four setup pages

SCREEN
Brightness, screen off and back
VIEW
Flip screen, Demo mode and back
NETWORK
WiFi, setup in browser, IP address and back
RESET
Forget WiFi and go back
The screen can be set to Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English from the setup page. The language changes without restarting. New devices are set to English from the factory.
When no Bluetooth devices have been found, the screen shows demo data with a yellow DEMO label at the bottom. It is not a fault.
Maturity

What is verified, and what is experimental

Not everything in the firmware has the same maturity. Use the list below when assessing whether something is a fault, or an open test point.

Verified on real hardware

This is what we expect to work

  • Voltvik Blikk starts, shows the screen, responds to touch, uses Bluetooth and connects to WiFi.
  • Victron SmartShunt / BMV-712, SmartSolar MPPT and Orion XS are read from real equipment.
  • Mopeka Pro Check LPG and Pro Check H2O are read from real gas and water sensors.
  • RuuviTag has been verified with temperature, humidity and air pressure in a motorhome, both the indoor and outdoor variants.
Experimental

These are open questions

The code exists and is compiled in, but no one has confirmed the numbers against physical equipment yet. Please report what you see if you have any of this available.

  • Phoenix Inverter, Inverter RS, Multi RS, MultiPlus-II and Quattro on the INVERTER page.
  • Victron DC Energy Meter and Lynx Smart BMS as battery monitors.
  • Blue Smart charger, Smart Battery Sense and BatteryProtect.
MultiPlus-II and Quattro do not have a Bluetooth radio in the unit itself. They require a VE.Bus Smart dongle for Voltvik to read them. Inverter RS and Multi RS have Bluetooth built in.
Feedback

What we especially want answers to

Preferably write concrete observations: what you did, what the screen showed, which equipment you tested against, and whether the number matched the original app or instrument.

First startup and setup

  • Did you find the Voltvik-XXXX network without help?
  • Whether the setup page opened automatically, or whether you had to use 192.168.4.1.
  • Whether it was unclear where WiFi, language or Demo mode should be changed.

Readings and screen use

  • Whether the values for verified equipment match VictronConnect, the Mopeka app or the Ruuvi app.
  • Whether page order, text size, language and swiping are understandable in practical use.
  • Whether you see restarts, black screen, strange demo numbers or messages that do not make sense.

How to send test notes

Use this contact route when sending observations, pictures or questions:

support@voltvik.io

Include the firmware version if you see it, the name of the equipment you tested against, and preferably a picture of the screen when something looks wrong.
